wHAT TO EXPECT
This year I have created thematic units for each grade level. Each unit explores the elements and principles of art. As our students move through the grade levels, I hope that they can achieve a deeper understanding of art in our world.
Kindergarten: WHY DO WE MAKE ART? Kindergarten is exploring all of the reasons why we make art.
First Grade: ELEMENTS OF ART. First grade is exploring the elements of art: line, shape, color, form, value, space and texture.
Second Grade: MEET THE MASTERS. With this thematic unit, 2nd grade explores art through the art of the master artists from all around the world.
Third Grade: ART AROSS THE WORLD. We are traveling from country to country learning about a variety of art styles and how they reflect culture. So far we have been to Mexico, India, and Greece. Take a look at some of the beautiful Greek vases that were made!
Fourth Grade: ART THROUGH TIME. Starting with cave art and ending with modern art, the fourth grade is learning how art evolved through time! We aim to hit as many different art genres as possible.
Your student will be bringing artwork home throughout the school year. Please have a conversation with them about their art! Art exists all around us and we encounter it on a daily basis. I encourage conversations at home about art to help our students become more aware of the art that surrounds them every day.
